Company History

Founder Walter C. Meloon moved from New Hampshire down to central Florida in 1924 with his family in order to take advantage of great real estate opportunities. The very next year, he founded his Florida Variety Boat Company in the city of Pine Castle, Florida. By 1936, Meloon had rechristened the company “Correct Craft” after a short time as the Pine Castle Boat and Construction Company. A secondary manufacturing facility was built in 1942, which helped the company to build an impressive 400 boats for the United States war effort in 1945.

 

In 1961, the company began to manufacture tow boats specifically for watersports usage with their first Ski Nautique® boat, having bought the design from ski instructor Leo Bentz. A new manufacturing facility in Orlando was constructed in 1966 to build more ski boats. Nautique® thus became a leading brand in the boat industry, with models like the Barefoot Nautique® and the Bass Nautique® being released over the next few decades.
